Walk This Way

Last night after I returned to my room, I saw something scurry across my floor. I blinked and realized it was a freaking cockroach. I nearly jumped out of my skin. I freaked out and called Tim, frantically asking him if he was afraid of bugs. Luckily, he came to the rescue and got rid of my little 'friend'. I told him that he was getting a phone call every time there is a big bug....
Today I was supposed to go to breakfast at 8am with everyone. Since it was our day off, I decided to sleep through the text messages and phone calls from my coworkers. Whoops. I wound up waking up at 12:30, just in time to shower before meeting to tour campus at 1pm.

One of the adorable turtles
At 1pm, I headed downstairs to meet Ahmaud for the tour of North campus. We waited to see if anyone else was coming and then headed out at 1:30 when no one else showed.
Ahmaud showed me South campus where the science buildings were and also a pond with adorable little turtles in it. We walked across the campus and headed to North campus to see the historical buildings from when the university opened in the 1700s. The buildings were beautiful. Many were renovated (obviously), but still had similar structures. I've noticed that most of the buildings look very colonial in this area. (Many of the frats and sororities have old plantation homes with the giant columns on the outside. A lot of the buildings on campus look like this as well.)

He took me into the library, which is like the fifth largest in the country. They have over 5 million books in there. I was in awe. There were over 7 floors in this library! And the furniture was gorgeous. I was just super impressed by everything (as usual). I even met Ahmaud's old boss, Robert, who works in the library. I was able to go where only the staff was allowed and saw the inner workings of the library, briefly.
Terrapin Recreation Ale
2nd floor of the house for the debate team
After the library, we headed to a building used for the debate team. Ahmaud had a key to it and it was built in the 1700s. It was freaking awesome. There was so much history inside of it. I was geeking out seeing the old furniture. It was so beautiful. We even went upstairs to where the students debate. There is a stump that the students stand on to give "stump speeches" when running for executive board positions on the debate team. (Stump speeches happened in the old days. People stood on stumps so they could be seen in a crowd while giving out information.)
Once we left the house, we headed to downtown Athens. Ahmaud showed me all of the cool bars and places to eat. He also showed me a cool theater with a rooftop bar, a theater that has cool shows, and a movie theater that plays indie movies. I think I am in heaven. (We also passed by a super awesome tattoo shop so I am sold on this place!) Athens is quite the college town.
After our walking tour, we headed to a place called Walkers for a beer. I had a beer that is brewed in Athens called Terrapin (Recreation Ale). It wasn't half bad. I'm going to try to check out the brewery while I am here. It's supposed to be beautiful (just like everything else in this area).
Around 4:30, we headed to East campus for dinner. We passed by the football stadium and I learned that it is like the third or fourth largest football stadium in America (including professional stadiums) and the second or third largest collegiate football stadium in America. How cool is that?! It can hold around 95,000 people (maybe more).

East Village
East Village
We hit East campus at 5pm and waited for Diamond, Tim, and Terrance to get there so we could eat dinner. The dining hall did not have as many options as Snelling, but it was just as pretty. I got a steak fajita and a "pork fritter" (I don't even know what that is, honestly).
After dinner, I FaceTimed one of my besties at home, Tess, which made me happy. =)
Around 8pm, Diamond, Terrance, Tim, and I decided to watch a movie. It took us about 45 minutes to decide, but we settled on Horrible Bosses. Diamond fell asleep in the middle of it, but the rest of us enjoyed ourselves. I freaking love Charlie Day in it. He is hysterical.
Tomorrow, we have breakfast at 8:30. Hopefully we will finish everything that needs to get done before the RCs arrive on Tuesday.
Until next time,
A
