| My 1st American 'Coffee' = No Bueno |
I had to hand-draw a map of the stations for everyone to follow and then had to type a bunch of things up. Needless to say, I was unable to participate in the Staff vs. Student Ultimate Frisbee Tournament. (The staff won 13-6. I really wish I could've at least seen them play...)
Around 3, a bunch of RCs came running into the office. Apparently someone had broken their leg. An ambulance had already been called and the OSD, Rachel, and the RLC, Sarah, both had to tend to different medical situations. Everyone basically had to go to the ER or the clinic today and a bunch of RCs had to drive and stay with students. (There's a rule that students cannot be alone with an adult in the program... There always needs to be at least two adults with one child, which made us shorthanded most of the day.) At 4, I was called to pick up an RC and a student at the clinic and then had to take them to get prescriptions filled. All of this would have been fine if I wasn't running an event at 6....
I called Diamond to help me with the last minute event stuff and then headed out.
I finally got back to campus at 5:15, enough time to scarf down a grilled cheese with bacon before beginning set up at 5:30. I rounded up my committee and we started set up.

| Addressing the teams |
The event was comprised of 11 teams. Each team was led by either an RC or a TA. There were 10 stations total:
Station 1: Fling Your Flags High!
You have 10 minutes to create a team name and a team flag (using the supplies given) to bring with you throughout the race.
You have 10 minutes to create a team name and a team flag (using the supplies given) to bring with you throughout the race.
Station 2: It’s the End of the World as We Know It
You and your team were spending a fun day inside of Myers Hall enjoying some much needed rest and relaxation during evening free time. However, unbeknownst to your team, the rest of the UGA campus (including the remainder of TIP staff and students) has become infected with the zombie virus. It is now up to you and your teammates to figure out how you all are going to survive and escape from the UGA Zombie Apocalypse unscathed! You were all able to get around Myers Hall and gather the following list of items in order to help you plan your escape, and now you have gathered to put together that plan before you execute it. You have 10 minutes to complete this task.
Station 3: Build It!
You are to create the tallest free-standing structure that you are able to create with the supplies given. It must remain standing for at least 10 seconds. You have 10 minutes to complete this activity.
Station 4: Riddle Me That
You have 8 minutes to solve the 4 riddles given.
Station 5: The Floor is Lava
You have 3 hula hoops to get across the lava river. Only 2 people can be in the hula hoop at one time. You must get your entire team from one side to the other, without leaving 1 person alone on either side. Work quickly because there’s only 10 minutes before the lava river will overflow.
Station 6: How Well Do You Know Your Favorite Fandoms?
Answer the questions as thoroughly as you see fit. There are various categories containing various Fandoms. You have 10 minutes to complete this activity.
Station 7: Are You Smarter Than Your Team Leader? (Front steps outside of Rutherford)
You will have 10 minutes to answer various trivia questions against your team leader. The team leader may ask to peek at your answers once during the activity.
Station 8: All Tied Up
Stand in a circle and reach your hands across the circle. Grab your teammates hands (as long as they are not directly next to you). You have 5 minutes to unknot yourselves.
Station 9: Face the Cookie
Pick 3 team members. You must get 2 cookies from your forehead into your mouth… without using your hands. You have 5 minutes.
Station 10: Mini-Architects
You have 7 minutes to build the tallest card house you possibly can. It must remain standing for at least 10 seconds.| BIG event pins =) |
The event was off to a rocky start, but most of the TIPsters LOVED it. I was so proud of myself and my committee for pulling it together. So many students thanked me and told me how much they loved the event, especially the winning teams since they received cool pins.
The event wound up running from about 6:30 until about 8:30, which worked out very nicely for the RCs. It tired everyone out.
After we cleaned up, Diamond and I had to head to the ER to pick up a student. We also had to take her to get her prescription filled, but everything was closed. Now we have a task for first thing tomorrow....
Tomorrow we will be up at 9 to supervise the students for on-hall time and then free-time from 10-12. We have TIPstar tomorrow where I will be helping students release their feelings (since I have a lot of them....)
Hopefully tomorrow is a bit smoother.
Until next time,
A
