No Sleep for 24+ Hours

My kids love me <3
Flower one of my girls gave me
After the talent show on Friday, the tears would not stop. All of my girls were running around, getting their termbooks signed, and of course, crying. This went on until 1:30AM when we had our last RC Group meeting. I tried really hard not to cry, but to no avail. These girls really left their mark and I don't know what I am going to do without them. We did our final highs and lows and then headed downstairs to go to IHOP.
I drove six kids and Desiree to IHOP. When we got there, Jake and William, two TAs, were sitting at a table. We picked the booth directly behind them since we had to cram about six or seven RCs between two tables. I decided to get chocolate chip pancakes and bacon, in hopes that it would hold me over until I could eat again.
I was so exhausted that I fell asleep on the table at IHOP waiting for the kids to finish eating. At 3:45, I took six kids and Desiree back to Myers. I dropped them off and picked up seven more kids. We were all so tired, but since I was driving, I needed to stay alert. I turned up the music pretty loud in the car and 'Turn Down for What' came on. I looked in the rear view mirror and saw that all but one kid was asleep. It was the strangest lullaby I'd ever heard. =P
When we all returned to Myers, the first big group of kids got on a bus to the airport. Four of my girls got on that bus. I was tearing up as I said goodbye, but it hadn't fully hit me at that moment that these kids weren't coming back...

Selfie with Diamond sleeping on the couch
Things died down around 6AM and the staff members started to fall asleep on random pieces of furniture until about 7AM. Once 7 hit, I had about an hour and a half to relax aka take a nap in my room.
At 8:30, I was in the hallway, monitoring students until 10:30. I saw lots of kids crying and even had a few say goodbye to me. It was quite sad.
I already miss my girls
From 10:30-3, I was in the lobby saying goodbye to my kids and other kids who really impacted me. It was so sad. I think I might've cried more saying goodbye to these kids than I did on my graduation day.... and I cried a LOT on graduation day....
The kids that I worked with were truly amazing and it feels really weird not having them here. As much as they got on my nerves just being teenagers, I am truly going to miss each and every one of them. They've taught me a lot about myself and how to handle situations and I'd like to think I taught them a few things as well. I saw my high school self in so many of these kids, which is why it was so hard to say goodbye.

When all was said and done, I took the best nap of my life. I woke up around 7:30 and was ready to go out to eat with the other staff members at 8. Of course it took forever to get seated since there were sixteen of us, but when we finally sat down, it was worth it.

We ate at Trappeze, the first place I ate in Athens. Our waiter sucked this time and we didn't get out of there until about 10:45....
We headed to Zach's apartment, one of the TA's, and had the best nonTIPpropriate party we could.
We said goodbye to a few staff members who were not returning next term, which was sad, but at least it was a good time for everyone.

When I woke up this morning (at noon), I felt great, which was surprising considering the past 48 hours....
At 1, I headed to the Georgia Museum of Art with Jake the TA. It was kind of small, but the collection was pretty nice.
Now I'm hanging out in the piano room with the TAs. We are all doing our own things on our laptops waiting to order pizza for dinner. After dinner, we are going to trivia at the Blind Pig again. I'm excited. =D I think we are trying to go to trivia at a different bar every night of the intersession.

Until next time,
A

The Weepiest Prom I've Ever Been to....

Last night was TIP Prom, which means the end of the term is here. The students asked each other to prom in adorable ways, just like people do in high school. Some students used pizza, others used cute posters, but the bottom line is that every prom-posal was unique. The staff members even got involved, myself included. I asked one of the TAs by enlisting the help of my girls. I wrote "Jake from State Farm, will you go to prom with Allee?" on twelve pieces of paper and had my girls line up with it in O-House, surrounding his table. They kept the signs face down until everyone was lined up. He was so surprised and accepted the prom-posal. The kids loved it.

Res Life and some of Academic Staff
After dinner, the kids had evening study, but most of the TAs allowed the students to get ready for prom during that time. At 7:30, we headed to Tate Ballroom. I was on med-pager so I drove down with three students (two of which were injured, one who helped push the student in the wheelchair).
The prom was a lot of fun. The kids had a blast and some even did their TIPsync performances.
Photo
At the end of prom, when the traditional songs came on (Breakfast at Tiffany's, Save Tonight, Time of Your Life, and American Pie) everyone lost it. The staff was pretty good, for the most part, but after American Pie finished, everyone was tearing up.

After the dance, everyone was a mess. We had our second to last RC group meeting before everyone went to bed. I'm curious to see how emotional everyone gets tonight....
Today has been pretty chill. It was the last day of classes so I visited my girls who were presenting in Vet Med. Their presentations were incredible and I was very impressed with how much they had learned over the past three weeks. I am so proud of my girls.
My NY skyline

From 3-5, everyone was cleaning their rooms and packing everything up since they will be up ALL NIGHT. After they finished packing up, I gave them their termbooks. They were super excited to see all of the pictures and they have even asked me to sign their books. It's really hard to sign their books and to say goodbye. I'm not ready for them to leave...
After dinner, we headed back to Myers and hung out until about 6:45 when we headed down to Tate for the Talent Show.

These kids are all really talented. From comedy, to dancing, to singing, these kids are truly amazing.
I cannot believe that they leave tomorrow....
After the Talent Show is over, the kids have free time until 1:30, when we will have our last RC group meeting. After that, we will be going to iHOP from 2-4. Then, we have a half hour dance party on the roof of the parking deck and then I will have to say goodbye to my kids. I'm seriously not ready for this to happen....
I will probably be exhausted for the next two days so I am not sure when I will post again, but hopefully it will be soon!
Until next time,
A

A Night in the Capitol, Baseball, DAWGfest, and TIPsync

Since Friday, I have not really had a moment to myself to blog. Between dances, baseball, field day, and putting together a term book, it's seriously been nonstop running from 9am-3am (at the earliest...).
Let's start with Friday... I was on transport duty so if anything needed to be purchased or if the cars needed gas, I was the person to do this. Luckily, the morning was really slow and I didn't have to do anything except go to my Admin meeting at 11. We headed to lunch at 12 and were able to catch part of the Italy/Costa Rica game. (We saw the only goal scored during the game which was awesome.)
After lunch, we headed to our Res Life meeting and prepped for the insane weekend that was ahead.
After the meeting, I had to fill up one of the vans with gas since it was running on empty. We have a really interesting system for getting gas. There's a bunch of things that need to be typed in at the pump, since it's a business credit card, and then we have to save all of the receipts and fill out paper work when we get back to the office.
From 4-5, Steven and I ran TIPsync screenings in the piano room, but only a few groups came by. We had to extend the screenings to Sunday from 10am-12pm in the piano room.
Capitol Dance
Capitol Dance
At 5, my RC group and Desiree's RC group headed to dinner at O-House. Everyone was rushing through their meals because they wanted to get back to Myers to prep for the dance.
We headed back to Myers and started to get all Capitol-esque for the dance.
I tied up my hair in swirls and stuck a bunch of paint brushes in it. I then came down to the office and spray painted my hair half turquoise and half hot pink. I helped spray a few other staff members' hair and then headed back upstairs to get my makeup done. (One of my girls helped do my makeup so I could look 'fierce'.)

At 7:30, we headed to Tate Ballroom, dressed to the nines (by Capitol standards).
The dance was weepy, yet again, but everyone powered through. I have a feeling that TIP Prom is going to be insanely sad and tears will be everywhere....
I was on night duty after the dance and wound up staying up till about 3am with everyone, playing signs.
The next morning, I slept until about 11 and then got ready for the UF tournament by throwing my green bandana on around my hat. I headed to lunch at 12 and then headed back to Myers around 1.
Carter reffing UF
The UF tournament was super long, but the kids had a great time. At 4:45, the tournament was over and the kids were able to shower before the Gwinett Braves game.
Gwinett Braves Game
We took 'luxury' buses to the game and before we even left, I had hurt myself. I smacked my face on one of the TVs that was suspended from the ceiling. Luckily, I didn't really get hurt, but it gave me a headache.
The game was pretty cool. I
I was up again on night duty, but this time a bunch of RCs and TAs were up together. At 2:30am, we were still up and talking and we saw a TIPster in the lobby area. I immediately bolted down the hallway and into the stairwell, grabbing two people to check on the situation with me. We couldn't find the TIPster so we headed upstairs to the third floor, where we saw someone at the other end of the hallway. Finally, we figured out that the student was just grabbing a drink, but the other RCs had gotten to the student and also got the same story. When we figured everything out, one of the TAs sent out a message to the other RCs stating: DO NOT PURSUE! SHE'S LEGIT.
t was nice because I didn't feel like I was cheating on the Phillies since it was the triple A team in GA. We were not able to stay the entire game, but we saw most of it. The Gwinett Braves were winning before we left though...
We wound up staying up until about 5am and then had to wake up at 9am for on-hall time monitoring of the students.
#2fierce #greenbaes
Allee Cats =)
At 9:25, I drove a few students and an RC to the Methodist church downtown. When I got back to Myers, Carter and I ran the last of the TIPsync screenings. (One group kept us there until 12:15.... which cut into our lunch time....)
After lunch, we got ready for DAWGfest. We painted our faces, worked on our teams' entrance, and had an inspirational pep talk before running outside to participate in DAWGfest.
Palest RCs around repping the green baes
The events were hilarious and disgusting. I had to run an event called Jell-O snarfle where students had to slurp up Jell-O, without using their hands, and then run and tag the next person to do the same thing. It was SO GROSS because a student launched Jell-O onto the ground and still ate it, with grass all stuck in it. YUCK!
Tim and I trying to figure out the next event
The rest of DAWGfest was pretty hilarious. I gave my camera to the TAs Nick, Jake, and William to document the events. They had a fantastic time shooting and capturing the awkward moments.
When all was said and done at 5, we headed to dinner in O-House.
After dinner, the kids got ready for TIPsync. I left dinner early so I could shower and work on setting up the MLC with my committee for the event.
TIPsync was pretty funny. We had four TAs judging it as different characters and two TAs hosting the event. The kids loved them and had a great time performing. I was so proud of my girls who did the "Boys in Motion" from That's So Raven! and actually killed the choreography. Unfortunately, they
On Monday, I was up really early for morning duty and had to make sure the kids were getting up for class. It was rough since I was up late the previous night, but it wasn't the worst thing to have happened. After walking around Myers for two hours, I headed to breakfast with Terrance and Garphil. I grabbed a UGA themed waffle, but it wasn't as good as an AU waffle...
didn't place because their act wasn't considered 'humorous', but they still won in my eyes.

RC Group Night
RC Group Night cookies
After breakfast, I headed back to Myers and wound up sleeping until about 3:45. I was clearly exhausted.
I took my girls to dinner at 5 and then prepped for RC group night. We originally planned to go downtown, but it was thundering and lightening so we had to stay in Myers. We wound up ordering a bunch of pizza and then fifty cookies from Insomnia Cookies. It was a pretty fun night.
On Tuesday, I was on med pager and had to drive a student to the ER for a concussion in the morning. When I picked up the student, a few RCs headed to ECV for lunch. After lunch, I headed to the Cold War class and watched 'The Hunt for Red October'.
All the cookies...
Real-life Mario Kart
Dinner at O-House yet again and then I prepped for my evening activity with Gianna, real-life Mario Kart. We got boxes, paint, colored pencils, crayons, and markers for the students to make their own double-dash karts. After they made their karts, they had to race on 'rainbow road' and try to make the other team lose. It was funny to watch the kids throw tennis balls (turtle shells) at each other and then have to spin out. We also shouted 'lightening' and made the kids crawl until we shouted 'un-lightening' so they could walk normally.
All of the kids had a blast, but one team had too much fun, causing another trip to the ER for a concussion.
After dropping the student off, I sat and supervised free time until 10 and then hosted my hall meeting. I picked up the student and was back to campus by 11:15, just in time for the Residence Life staff meeting to be over.
We hung out on the balcony until about 1am and then I decided to head to bed.
This morning, I was called at 8:45 to take one of my girls to the clinic. (Everyone is falling apart....)
When I got back, I was able to pass of the med-pager keys and clipboard and went back to sleep for most of the day.
I skyped with my friend Ryan from home for a little while and now I am waiting for dinner.
A few RCs who are off and some of AC staff are going to trivia tonight. I AM SO EXCITED TO LEAVE THIS DAMN CAMPUS ON MY DAY OFF!
Tomorrow, I am on med-pager again. Hopefully the kids won't need to go to the ER or the clinic....
Tomorrow is also Prom, which means the kids will be having ALL the feels....
Sorry for the delay in posting, but hopefully I can keep up again when things die down.
Until next time,
A

Baby Cows, Trivia, and Genius Camp

Today started out at 7:50 with a phone call about a student needing to go to the clinic for hives. Of course I was still on med pager until 10AM so I had to drive her and Steven to the clinic. By the time I got back, I had to help Rachel with an injured student on campus. (He broke his tibia and fibula during the Staff vs. Student UF tournament and just returned to campus yesterday.) He needed help wheeling to the bathroom because the wheelchair he has right now doesn't have leg rests and he had to focus on holding his leg up. I then had to sit outside of the bathroom while he showered just in case he fell and needed help. Luckily, he made it through. After his shower, I took him to breakfast with Tim and another RC, Garphil. The student couldn't get a tray so I had to get his breakfast for him. We finished up and then headed back to Myers.
Lunch

I took a break and watched It's Always Sunny and then headed to lunch with the student, Diamond, and Terrance. Unfortunately, Diamond was called to go to the clinic so she couldn't eat with us. I again had to help the student by getting his lunch for him and then I was able to get my lunch. I grabbed a roast beef sandwich with cheddar cheese and onions on wheat bread. It was amazing.

Calf suckling on my finger

Kitty at the dairy farm
After lunch, I drove the Vet Med class to the dairy teaching farm about 20 minutes away from campus. It is owned by UGA and students work there to milk the cows.
We started out by the calves and learned that they are weaned from their mothers at 6 weeks. They live separately to avoid diseases and then once they are a bit older, they are placed back together until they are about 725 pounds and about 16 months old.
Once they are the right weight and age, they are artificially inseminated and then have a 9 month gestation period. During this time, the cows are used to produce milk up until the 7th month in their gestation and then they have a 2 month break. After the calf is born, the mother has 60 days to recover before the cycle starts over. Apparently, most of the cows only last for 3 cycles and then are 'burnt out'. It's sad to think about because then they are sold for meat. =(
Adorable cow
After the tour of the dairy farm, we were able to see the cows get milked. One of the students was hit with the milking mechanism and another was hit by cow shit. It was pretty hilarious. The girls both took the issues like champs so it was alright to laugh.

Milking area
When we got back to campus, Steven and I had to screen TIPsync performances for Sunday. Only 3 groups showed up so we will have a bunch of acts to screen tomorrow.

Eclair cake
At 4:45, I took my RC group and Desiree's RC group to dinner. I helped one of her students get her food because she is on crutches. Around 5:15, I was able to grab my own food. I grabbed chicken and mashed potatoes. Sadly, the chicken was gross. O-House redeemed itself with its eclair cake, though.  After dinner, a few RCs and I took group pictures as Disney princesses since it was Disney day for Spirit week.

Belle, princess, Sleeping Beauty, Meg, and Diamond
Disney Day
At 7, Steven and I ran trivia. The students really enjoyed it and it took a long time to get through so we were able to use up the full 2 hours.
I had a meeting at 10 with my RC group and Desiree's RC group as well.
At 11, I started night duty with Tim C. Gianna, Steven, Garphil, and Noah all sat out here with us along with TAs Zach, Jake, and Allison. We laughed for a while, talking about how smart the kids are here since 2 students went to the ER tonight right before night duty. We may be at genius camp, but these kids are not the brightest or most agile....

Tomorrow is the dance. It's Hunger Games themed and will be AWESOME. It will be another long day, though, since I am on night duty again.

Until next time,
A

It's the Eye of the Tiger

Today was twin day for spirit week. I was on med pager starting at 10AM and what do you know: a student had to go to the clinic right at 10AM.
My handiwork =)

I had to drop off the student and Gianna at the clinic, head back to Myers, drive a student to CVS with another RC, Desiree, for medicine, grab Gianna and the other student, head to Walmart to fill a prescription, take everyone back to Myers, take the students to lunch, and then take the students back to their classes across campus.

After the running around, I headed to the staff lounge to help with dance decorations. We made a giant capitol symbol for the hunger games and also made a huge 'May the odds be ever in your favor' poster with a mockingjay in the background.
Capitol symbol

At 4, we supervised free-time until 4:45 and then headed to dinner. I was able to catch the end of the Spain/Chile game, which really made me mad since I was rooting for Spain. Oh well. Time for me to root for another team instead!
Triplets wearing Tigers

After dinner, we took pictures with our twins (or in my case triplets) outside of O-House. It was hilarious to organize because Steven kept eating his ice cream cone and Gianna and I kept yelling at him. It felt like we were actual siblings. We told him we were going to tell mom on him, but he didn't listen.

All of the twin/triplet groups
At 6:30, Carter and I started watching the Croatia/Cameroon game in the piano room until the kids showed up for the World Cup program at 7. We all crammed into one side of the room since the second TV wasn't working. The kids really got into it and used a vuvuzela everytime Croatia scored (lucky for us, they only got to see 2/4 goals).

After the game finished, we still had about an hour and a half left to occupy the kids. We decided to play a giant game of ultimate werewolf. It killed a bunch of time and the kids had a blast.
The kids had free-time from 9-10 and many of them used it to take pictures with their RCs or to practice their TIPsync performances.

40+ people in one tiny room = dedication!

At 10, we had an RC Group meeting and voted on superlatives for the term book. (Every RC group must make a page for the book and come up with unique superlatives.) My girls decided to make every noun into a verb. For example, my superlative is 'most likely to cats' and another is 'most likely to Southern mother'. I'm not sure why they wanted to do this, but I have stopped questioning their motives...

40+ people playing Ultimate Werewolf
Tomorrow is Disney day. I'm excited for that. I also found out that I will be driving for a field trip to a dairy farm meaning I WILL GET TO SEE BABY COWS! I could not be anymore excited!

Until next time,
A

You're tacky and I hate you

Today was tacky day at work for spirit week. I decided to wear my long tribal skirt and my orange flannel shirt. It wasn't that tacky, but it worked.
Lunch
Tacky Day

I slept in and then went to lunch with a few RCs at ECV (Summit) and had 'Georgia Chicken'. I'm still not entirely sure what made it 'Georgia-like', but it was yummy nonetheless.

After lunch, I headed to Aderhold to see one of my girls do a presentation on Scaphoid fractures. Apparently it is a very common fracture among people who play sports and fall on their hands.
After the presentation, I walked back to Myers and called Tess to help pass the time. It wasn't a very far walk (only took about 12 minutes), but it was super hot and humid so it felt like an eternity.

When I got back to my room, Diamond and I went on an adventure to the thrift store to try to find clothes for the rest of spirit week. Unfortunately, we didn't have any luck.
Dinner
Dessert

We got back to Myers just in time for 4-5 free time. I was so hot I kind of just chilled out in front of my door and made conversation with a few kids that came down the hall.
We headed to dinner at 4:45 and for the first time, I did not have to set up the table. I made one of my girls who was late to our group meeting set it up.
I grabbed shredded cheesy potatoes and turkey pasta something. The potatoes were amazing but I could have lived without the turkey pasta stuff...

Tacky RCs

After dinner, I headed to another presentation. This time, I learned about synesthesia, which is a complex neurological disorder that involves all of the senses being tangled up. For example, one of my girls can see colors when she sees or hears a number. It's pretty interesting.

After the presentation, a few RCs met up to discuss TIPsync, our Lip Sync event that is happening on Sunday night. I'm excited and I think it is going to be a fun time, but I'm a little bit worried about screening the students' performances on Thursday and Friday....

At 7:25, my RC group met up to go to Walmart for RC Group Night. I drove a van with 6 girls and a TA, Zak, drove another van with the remaining 6. The girls were so excited about Walmart. I was surprised that people could be so enthused about it....
I found a long pink dress to wear for Disney Day (since I'm going as Aurora) and I also found a green bandana for Dawgfest. A lot of my girls picked out outfits for twin day tomorrow and also for Disney Day on Thursday.

Once everyone checked out, we went to Chick-fil-A. Again, my girls were ecstatic. It doesn't take much to please them. It's kind of adorable.
We got back to Myers around 9:30 and then had free time until 10. We had our RC group meeting and discussed the agenda for the remainder of the week.

At 11, I met with the RCs on the green team for Dawgfest to revamp everything we discussed in Sunday's meeting. Apparently the students were using the Shrek innuendos as a reference to a youtube video called 'Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life', which is a really bad thing. I had no idea at the time, but it was brought to my attention so we decided to change everything, minus our team name (Green Baes).

After the meeting, we just kind of sat around talking about twin day. Steven and I are going to be twins. He is currently at Walmart with Gianna and Carter, picking out the perfect shirt for us to wear. I'm a bit nervous...

Tomorrow, I am on med pager from 10am-10am Thursday. Hopefully there are not too many sick kids.

Until next time,
A

Mondays are for sleeping

Today was my day off which means I spent most of my day asleep. I woke up and went to lunch with Terrance and Carter at Summit and got a delicious chicken caesar wrap. We wound up running into 2 other RCs, Gianna and Becca, and ate lunch with them.

After lunch, I headed back to my room and facetimed with Tess. We caught up and even shared a snack, states away. It was nice.
Sharing a snack =P

While we were facetiming, I was finally able to get some laundry done since the kids have been taking over the washers and dryers all of the time.
Paying for laundry sucks.

After facetiming, I took a nap. I wound up sleeping through the US v. Ghana game and dinner as well. When I woke up, it was after 9. I hopped on iChat and chatted with my friend Kristina for 45 minutes and then headed out to grab something to eat with a few RCs and TAs.

We headed to 'Always Baked', a local cookie place that is similar to 'Insomnia Cookies'. I tried fried cookie dough (which was AMAZING) and a peanut butter cookie with cinnamon, white chocolate, and chocolate chips. I will probably be going back there again in the near future...

Deliciousness

After 'Always Baked', we headed to Cookout for burgers and shakes.
We hung out there until about midnight and then headed back to Myers.

Tomorrow, I am hopefully seeing one of my girl's presentations in her Sports Med class about Scaphold Fractures. Other than that, my day is pretty open until 4 when the kids finish class.

Hopefully this day of rest will have me ready to go for the rest of the week.

Until next time,
A

Teenagers are the BEST kind of birth control

Last night, Diamond and I decided to go to Walmart to grab a few things after our super hectic day.
I was exhausted, but I found my favorite kind of chips: DILL PICKLE FLAVORED. I can't remember the last time I had seen them and I was super excited that I found them here.
We got back to campus around 1AM and I immediately passed out.
I woke up for breakfast at 8:30 because I was terrified that I would have a hectic day like I had dealt with on Saturday. I ate breakfast with a few other RCs and then headed back to Myers for on-hall time with my girls.
I had the opportunity to call my parents today and was able to wish my dad a happy father's day. (I even sent him a card which made it to him in time.) It was really nice to chat with him since I haven't been able to talk to him much since I've been here.
After my phone call, I worked on organizing my TIPstar event with Diamond. We finished up around 12, just in time for lunch.
Throwing Away Your Cares (title courtesy of Lucy M from AU)
I was able to sit with the RCs and TAs, which was great because we didn't have to deal with the kids for an hour.
After lunch, we set up for TIPstar and then hosted the event from 1:30-4:15. Diamond and I ran an event about self-care and emotions. Students wrote their cares on a piece of paper and then tore them up and threw them away. After the throwing, we discussed different ways to 'let go' of cares and things weighing them down. Many of the students got into it, but a few were very rude about it. I guess kids will be kids.
After TIPstar, we headed to dinner as an RC family. We talked about TIPstar and about random things.
Right after dinner, we headed to the MLC to watch a movie. The kids voted on "How to Train Your Dragon", which is one of my favorite movies. I was so happy to just relax for a little while.
After the movie, we found out which teams we are on for spirit week. I am on the green team, with a bunch of little assholes....
We met on the 3rd floor by the laundry room to discuss our team name, our chants, our entrance, and who was participating in what during Dawgfest on Sunday.
After about 45 minutes, we finally decided on a name and a chant: Green Baes with the chants 'This is our swamp' and 'It's all ogre now'. The kids just were not listening and made this go on forever.
Since the kids were not listening, and were being very rude to me and Carter, we cracked down. We told the students they were no longer able to talk unless they were signing up for an activity. Unfortunately this didn't work.
We were in this meeting until 10PM, which really pissed off the kids, but I was so done. They were snippy and rude, which made me very short tempered by the time I had to go to my meeting with my girls.
Of course my girls were super indecisive about everything, which made me more upset. They all saw me at the previous meeting so they knew how upset I was, but they continued to be difficult. After about 20 minutes, they finally decided that we are going to go to Walmart for our RC group night to get supplies for spirit week and our TIPsync event on Sunday.
Let's just say I am done with kids for the next 24+ hours and I cannot wait for my day off to start.
Since 11, I have been on night duty with Carter, doing rounds every 1/2 hour. Gianna and Steven have been sitting here with us, making us crack up hysterically. It has been a fun night on duty.
Tomorrow is my day off. THANK GOD. I cannot wait to sleep and not deal with anyone until Tuesday at 4 (since I don't have any duties until then).
Most likely my day will consist of sleep and Netflix, just like last Monday, and I am completely okay with that.
Until next time,
A

Murphy's Law

Today was the definition of Murphy's Law. The day started out okay with breakfast (and by breakfast I mean two apples on the way to Aderhold...) and then presentations in two TIP classes, Apocalypse in Pop Culture and Criminal Law/Mock Trial. Three of my girls were presenting today and I was really excited to see their work. One of my girls did a group presentation about surviving the White Girl apocalypse. It was pretty hilarious. My other girls did opening statements for famous trials. One trial was about the girl in the red velvet swing, Evelyn Nesbit, and the other was about the Harvey Milk murder, which I studied extensively for a course in college. I really enjoyed the presentations and was super impressed by all of the TIPsters hard work.

My 1st American 'Coffee' = No Bueno
After the presentations, I headed back to Myers and into the office to prep for the Amazing Race. Of course many students did not follow directions so I had to rework all of the teams. A team leader also wound up dropping out so I had to fix that situation quickly.

I had to hand-draw a map of the stations for everyone to follow and then had to type a bunch of things up. Needless to say, I was unable to participate in the Staff vs. Student Ultimate Frisbee Tournament. (The staff won 13-6. I really wish I could've at least seen them play...)

Around 3, a bunch of RCs came running into the office. Apparently someone had broken their leg. An ambulance had already been called and the OSD, Rachel, and the RLC, Sarah, both had to tend to different medical situations. Everyone basically had to go to the ER or the clinic today and a bunch of RCs had to drive and stay with students. (There's a rule that students cannot be alone with an adult in the program... There always needs to be at least two adults with one child, which made us shorthanded most of the day.) At 4, I was called to pick up an RC and a student at the clinic and then had to take them to get prescriptions filled. All of this would have been fine if I wasn't running an event at 6....

I called Diamond to help me with the last minute event stuff and then headed out.
I finally got back to campus at 5:15, enough time to scarf down a grilled cheese with bacon before beginning set up at 5:30. I rounded up my committee and we started set up.

Addressing the teams
Everything was running smoothly until I realized one of the stations was not completed... One of the group members forgot to come up with questions for the 'Are You Smarter Than Your Team Leader?' station and the event was about to start. I panicked and forced him to do the questions at that very moment. Luckily, he finished by 6:20 and we were able to start only a little bit late.

The event was comprised of 11 teams. Each team was led by either an RC or a TA. There were 10 stations total:

Station 1: Fling Your Flags High!
You have 10 minutes to create a team name and a team flag (using the supplies given) to bring with you throughout the race.

Station 2: It’s the End of the World as We Know It
You and your team were spending a fun day inside of Myers Hall enjoying some much needed rest and relaxation during evening free time. However, unbeknownst to your team, the rest of the UGA campus (including the remainder of TIP staff and students) has become infected with the zombie virus. It is now up to you and your teammates to figure out how you all are going to survive and escape from the UGA Zombie Apocalypse unscathed! You were all able to get around Myers Hall and gather the following list of items in order to help you plan your escape, and now you have gathered to put together that plan before you execute it. You have 10 minutes to complete this task.

Station 3: Build It!
You are to create the tallest free-standing structure that you are able to create with the supplies given. It must remain standing for at least 10 seconds. You have 10 minutes to complete this activity.

Station 4: Riddle Me That
You have 8 minutes to solve the 4 riddles given.

Station 5: The Floor is Lava
You have 3 hula hoops to get across the lava river. Only 2 people can be in the hula hoop at one time. You must get your entire team from one side to the other, without leaving 1 person alone on either side. Work quickly because there’s only 10 minutes before the lava river will overflow.

Station 6: How Well Do You Know Your Favorite Fandoms?
Answer the questions as thoroughly as you see fit. There are various categories containing various Fandoms. You have 10 minutes to complete this activity.

Station 7: Are You Smarter Than Your Team Leader? (Front steps outside of Rutherford)
You will have 10 minutes to answer various trivia questions against your team leader. The team leader may ask to peek at your answers once during the activity.

Station 8: All Tied Up
Stand in a circle and reach your hands across the circle. Grab your teammates hands (as long as they are not directly next to you). You have 5 minutes to unknot yourselves.

Station 9: Face the Cookie
Pick 3 team members. You must get 2 cookies from your forehead into your mouth… without using your hands. You have 5 minutes.

Station 10: Mini-Architects
You have 7 minutes to build the tallest card house you possibly can. It must remain standing for at least 10 seconds.

BIG event pins =)
The first two teams to complete all 10 stations were the winners.

The event was off to a rocky start, but most of the TIPsters LOVED it. I was so proud of myself and my committee for pulling it together. So many students thanked me and told me how much they loved the event, especially the winning teams since they received cool pins.

The event wound up running from about 6:30 until about 8:30, which worked out very nicely for the RCs. It tired everyone out.

After we cleaned up, Diamond and I had to head to the ER to pick up a student. We also had to take her to get her prescription filled, but everything was closed. Now we have a task for first thing tomorrow....

Tomorrow we will be up at 9 to supervise the students for on-hall time and then free-time from 10-12. We have TIPstar tomorrow where I will be helping students release their feelings (since I have a lot of them....)

Hopefully tomorrow is a bit smoother.
Until next time,
A
